Wireless Communications Options
Simple Installation and Reliable Operation
There are several excellent wireless technologies used to implement EnerNOC's remote monitoring and control system today. Each has different characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.
- Cellular: GSM/GPRS and CDMA/1XRTT are digital cellular technologies that can be used to send and receive larger or more frequent volumes of data. These are best suited for applications that reside in populated areas where digital coverage is readily available.
- Satellite: Iridium is a global satellite data communications company. Their Short Burst Data (SBD) service provides reliable, two-way data communications around the world through a global network of 66 low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites and accompanying ground infrastructure. The SBD service is ideal for Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications.
